As
a demonstration of its capabilities and achievements, Beech Interplex
offers the following summary of its activities since 1990:
- formed the Consortium of Cecil B. Moore Organizations,
which consists of 50 agencies/organizations that meet regularly
to provide progress reports of revitalization activities and
to coordinate inter-organizational improvement functions
- established
and manage a small business loan fund
- put
in place follow-up services on the community, family, and
individual levels that will serve to prevent regression once
improvements are achieved
- established
a working relationship with the City of Philadelphia's
neighborhood services agencies to target and guide their
activities in the Cecil B. Moore community
- financial
contributions to the revitalization of the Cecil B.
Moore area and other communities in North Central Philadelphia
exceeding $25 million, which
provided $250 million in leveraged funds for the North
Central Philadelphia community
- initial
implementation of small improvement projects designed
to have an immediate impact on the community while planning
the over-all improvement process and projects
Beech
Interplex, Inc., has specifically completed and/or collaborated
with other groups in funding and implementing the following projects:
- construction of a 30,000 square foot mixed use
commercial office and retail complex
- construction
of a 10,000 square foot childcare services building
- construction
of an 8,000 square foot childcare services and retail storefront
building that is occupied by Women's Christian Alliance,
Compro Tax, and Mahtah, Inc.
- Construction
of a 10,000 square foot Social Security Administration
community office building which provides services to approximately
5,000 persons per month
- completion
of a $2 million, phase I, major systems upgrade, property
façade,
auditorium and ballroom restoration to the Legendary
Blue Horizon, a 60,000 square foot boxing and entertainment
venue
- establishment of a $1 million small business
loan fund
construction
of a 21,000 square foot office and retail complex;
and the construction of a 16,000 square foot Charter School
- in
conjunction with the Micro-Enterprise Development
Program, acquisition of $179,000 from HUD to promote neighborhood
entrepreneurial development
- in
conjunction with Temple University, acquisition
of a $1.8 million Department of Education grant to promote
community empowerment

conjunction with the School District of Philadelphia
acquisition of a $195,000, grant from the State Department
of Health to establish a Family Health Clinic at the local

- Beech Interplex Building : The
total rehabilitation and restoration of a 30,000 sq. ft. office
and retail complex.
- Beech Care Buildings : New
construction of (2) two childcare services and retail
buildings, which total 20,000 square feet.
- Beechwood Homes : New
construction and total rehabilitation of (14) fourteen for
sale town houses.
- Alliance for Progress Charter
School : New construction of a 16,000
sq. ft. education building.
- Women's Christian Alliance Headquarters
Building : New construction of a 25,000
sq. ft. administration and operations building, which
houses 240 employees.
- Social Security Administration Office
Building : New construction of a
10,000 square foot community service building housing
(26) twenty-six employees and servicing approximately
5,000 clients monthly.
- Legendary Blue Horizon : Restoration
of the interior and exterior of this historic 60,000
square foot sports and entertainment facility.
- Cecil B. Moore Housing Rehabilitation
Program : Rehabilitation and
renovation of 300 owner-occupied properties.
- Oxford Village : construction
of a 469-bed student housing, multi-family
facility adjacent to the Temple University campus
- 1601 Commercial/Retail Building : renovation
and restoration of a 8,000 square foot multi-use
commercial building on 16th & Cecil B. Moore Avenue. The
building is occupied by a property management company on
the second floor, and a restaurant/catering service on the first floor.
- Avenue North : A community
partner of a 300,000 square foot shopping mall which includes a
seven-screen movie theatre and retail stores on Broad and Cecil
B. Moore Avenue, and a high-rise apartment building located on
1600 N. 15th Street.
